Computers

Computer classes

The library offers Computer Classes for new users. The classes consist of four weekly sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours. They cover computer basics, surfing the Internet, Word basics, and email basics. The classes are free and available to anyone registering at the Adult Services Desk on the Second Floor.

Internet access

Internet access is available to anyone using the public computers in the building.

Children, 13 and under, may use the computers in the Youth Department. Those 14 and older may use the computers in the Adult Department. Individuals 18 and under are required to have a signed consent form on file before using computers the first time. A parent or legal guardian must complete this form.

Freeport Public Library card holders sign on using their library card number. Visitors receive guest passes at the Youth Services or Adult Services Desk.

WiFi access for personal laptops is available to anyone in the building with their personal laptop.

Public computers

The library offers computer access to anyone within the library building during library hours.

Adult computers may be reserved in advance by calling 815-233-3000 and asking for the Adult Services Desk.

Computers provide access to the Internet and Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Publisher. All online databases are also accessible on these machines.

All public computers are linked to printers. Color copies are $.50 each and black/white pages are $.10 each.

WiFi

The Library offers free wireless Internet access from anywhere within the building. Getting online is quick and simple. All you need is a wireless-enabled laptop computer. The Library's network is open to all visitors free of charge and without filters. No special encryption settings, usernames, or passwords are required.
